Ionisation
The Standard Also States…
That ionisers should be considered as a method for charge neutralisation in cases where grounding cannot be achieved. In many modern assembly, test or repair areas, automation is now a major factor and the grounding of some equipment or parts of equipment is impractical. In these areas the use of suitable ionisation equipment is very strongly recommended.
When constructing or working within an EPA it is imperative that all products and materials contained within the area are EPA compatible. As technology advances, the sensitivity of ESDS continue to increase and in the case of some components it is known that the smallest of electrostatic fields can cause damage.
Ionised air is a very effective method of neutralising static charge ensuring all components within an EPA are brought safely to the same Potential. BS EN 61340-5-1 recommends that an effective Ioniser should decay a charge of 1000V to 10% of its value, i.e. 100V, in 20 seconds maximum.
All of the Ionisers within our range comply with or exceed this recommendation. The choice of Portable, Benchtop or Overhead Ioniser depends on the size and position of the area to be covered and 1, 2 and 3 fan systems are available to suit. A site audit by one of our trained personnel is recommended to ensure the correct choice of product.
