Training
Effective ESD Control…
Involves a complex chain of procedures and as such, it is only as strong as the weakest link. With improper use even the most advanced equipment and systems can be rendered ineffective. For this reason the training of personnel involved in handling ESD sensitive devices is essential to the actual control function.
The BS EN 61340-5-1 Standard requires that relevant, structured ESD training should be provided for all personnel who specify, procure, design, mark or handle ESDS in any way or are likely to do so. This includes those who manage or supervise them. Special emphasis should also be placed on the training of personnel who are to undertake field work.
Subcontractors, cleaners and temporary personnel should also receive appropriate awareness training in relation to their activities. In addition, all visitors to an EPA should be made aware of local ESD handling procedures and/or precautions.
Teknis are leaders in the provision of ESD Training and are currently contracted to provide ESD Induction courses and regular ESD Refreshers courses for several significant companies. Courses may be designed and tailored to meet the customers’ requirements with emphasis on specific products or areas of concern. Our personnel would be happy to meet and discuss your requirements.
Training may be provided by the ESD co-ordinator or by persons authorised by him or her and should include:
- Theory of the causes of charging
- Some basic knowledge about ESD
- Special handling procedures
- Protective items
- Identification of ESDS in equipment
- Limits of the protection used
- ESDS sensitivity
- The use of new techniques, processes and equipment prior to implementation
- Conflicts with safety requirements
- High voltage precautions where EPA includes exposed conductors with a potential in excess of 250VAC
- Awareness of the Standard
